Apostille for India

Do you need to obtain apostille on your documents for use in India?

Multichoice Apostille provides apostille service on documents signed and notarized in any of the US States and the District of Columbia. Once we process your apostille and you receive your documents from us, please contact the Consulate General of India for further instructions on the legalization process.

Legalization of such documents as affidavits, bank statements, power of attorney, salary statements, employment letters, color copy of Indian passport, copy of US authorities-issued documents (US Passport, Driver’s License, corporate documents, etc.) requires notarization before the Secretary of State office can process an apostille on them.

India requires that a power of attorney (POA) issued for use in India must be signed and witnessed by two individuals. Their full names and addresses must be clearly stated on the document. To ensure your POA is accepted in India, we recommend visiting the Consulate General of India website for detailed instructions on how to create a POA or have it done by a licensed notary public or an attorney in India.

Many places in India recognize the attestation by the Indian Embassy/Consular office more than just the apostille from the US Secretary of State. Consequently, we advise that your document receives an apostille AND an attestation by the Indian Embassy or Consulate office to avoid any issues with the acceptance of your Power of Attorney in India.

In the United States, India has the Embassy in Washington DC and five Consulate General offices located in:

California (San Francisco)
Georgia (Atlanta)
New York (NYC)
Texas (Houston)

Please contact the Indian Embassy or Consular office for detailed instructions before you begin the legalization process of your document. India often requires you to notarize additional documents as proof that you are a current legal U.S. resident. Below you can see the common documents the Indian Consulate often asks to provide:

• U.S Driver’s license
• Utility bill with an applicant’s address
• House Lease Agreement
• Mortgage Deed
• Bank/credit card/cell phone bill statements
