Apostille on Driving Record Certification for Use Overseas
If you plan to drive in a foreign country while using a US-issued driver’s license, you may have to show that your license is valid for use internationally. Obtaining an apostille on your US driver’s license will serve as sufficient proof of your identity and your driving record for the countries-members of the Hague Apostille Convention.
The US government issues a special Certified US Driving Record (also often called a Driver Abstract) to certify that an owner of such document is qualified to drive in the United States. A majority of US states require a personal presence when a US citizen applies for a Driver Abstract, however, it is also possible to order it online.
Note: Some countries won’t accept an apostilled Driver’s License as sufficient enough proof of driver’s eligibility. In this case, you can order a Driver’s Abstract from the Department of Motor Vehicle website. If you are not able to order this document online, you need to contact your local DMV and ask for assistance.
