Multichoice Apostille offers Apostille service for U.S. Passports that need to be certified for use abroad. We generally ask for your original passport to authenticate it. Another option is for you to have a licensed Notary public certify a color copy of your passport, if you don’t want or unable to mail us the original. Please check with the country of your destination if a certified copy is sufficient before you send your passport or its copy to us.
A Notary Public certifying a copy of your passport must be licensed in the state of your residency and have experience in notarizing documents for use abroad. To avoid any delays with further legalizing of your passport, make sure your notary public uses correct notary forms and an appropriate affidavit. When you receive a notarized certified copy of your US passport, review it carefully and check that it bears the notary’s name, date of notarization, and notary seal. Some states require additional acknowledgment statements to accompany a certified US passport copy from a passport holder. Typically, the statement can be something like this: “I do hereby attest that this is a true and correct photocopy of my US Passport.” (Signed and dated).
You can also send your passport to our office and we will have it notarized by the rules of the state issuing authentication.
A US passport can receive an apostille only if it is to be used in the member countries of the Hague Apostille Convention. If you are traveling to a country that is not a party to the Hague Apostille Treaty, you will need to request US passport legalization - a special authentication process through the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., and legalization through the Embassy / Consulate office.
Obtaining an Apostilled US passport is a complex process and should always be handled by professionals only. Remember that trusting your important documents to incompetent persons who are unfamiliar with the specifics of each country, may lead you to lost money, and delays of your important business by weeks, or even months. Complicated matters must be handled by experts, and that’s why we recommend that you should let Multichoice Apostille take care of obtaining a US Passport Apostille.
